UNUSUAL ... and Oh, SO Graphic!!   This overall graphic design, a stunning, swirling vortex, looks to us like it may be Native American.  But the construction technique, called "PINE CONE" or "PINE BURR" -- is more closely associated with African American quilt design.  It was not exclusively made by Afro Americans, but it was popular among them, especially in the South. We are not sure of the exact origin of this one.   Most Pine Burr quilts are organized in blocks, each with a circle inside. Each circle has radiating colors placed to resemble a target, and indeed the quilt is sometimes also called "Target Quilt."  The overall design here is likely UNIQUE.  In our forty years of collecting, we certainly have never seen it!   The many MANY pieces are actually folded into triangles which are sometimes called "Prairie Points" -- and are usually found sewn ina single line on to the edge of quilts. All pieces are tediously hand sewn.  The quilt is entirely HAND MADE.   This amazing quilt measures about 60 x 74 inches and,as you can easily see, it looks WONDERFUL on the wall!  Fabrics are predominantly cottons and  cottons blends, with a few polyesters.   Made circa 1960, this rare treasure is in Excellent Condition with a few pieces that have lost a few stitches. Nothing serious.
