Description
This is a stunning Jewish Historic heritage sterling silver alvin tea coffee set. This set is a one of a kind. After extensive research we have been able to determine this set is a major part of history. This set was presented in 1917 to David M. Bressler, upon his retirement as the General Manager of the Industrial Removal Office (IRO). The Industrial Removal Office was founded in 1901, in an effort to enhance Jewish immigrants' standard of living and employment oppurtunities. The IRO worked to help immigrants locate to smaller communities to get out of the congestion of New York City. In the IRO's first year they succeeded in relocating nearly 2000 jewish immigrants to 250 different places throughout the United States. When placed in the different locations, the immigrants were then assisted in starting different occupations and trades. There were 390 different variations of occupations and trades. A major succes of the IRO was to encourage diverse occupations. When the financial panic began in 1907 (the beginning of the Great Depression) the demand for laborers decreased sharply, causing many IRO city offices to suspend their operations. David M. Bressler organized new offices in Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Spokane, and other cities, that were not as affected by the depression. With the onset of World War 1, the IRO was struggling to place immigrants. The IRO preserved it's organazation throughout the war, but in it's struggle to place as many immigrants as had happened in past years, they began to have a financial decline, and in 1922 formerly dissovled. David M. Bressler, ended his service with the IRO in 1917, and was given in appreciation this tea/coffee set, which we now have up for auction. This set needs to find a safe and respectable home.
