Mendun is the construction structure (component). It was used to Archaian Chinese  front door (gate). Gate pier can be divided into two kinds according to its appearance: round-shaped pier (Drum Stone) and square-shaped pier (Box-type). It was said that round-shaped pier was used in the front of the gate of general’s house. In ancient times, general who returned in triumph put the drum before the gate to show off his contribution. Gate pier in the Qing Dynasty was elegantly carved with plenty of implied meanings; it was both architectural structure and stone carving art, meanwhile, it was also the portrayal of folk life. The pier of Nine Generations Living under the same Roof implies flourish of family, happiness and good luck, and living a long and healthy life.
