Vintage 1928 Leather Cover Book > DOW CHEMICALS' Description Description: J&L Normal J&L 32 156668 2007-03-06T16:07:00Z 2008-08-17T03:19:00Z 1 667 3807 31 8 4466 10.2625 120 Print 114 Clean Clean MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Description: Vintage 80-year old Leather-bound Book DOW CHEMICALS   ·        This listing is for (1) vintage 80-year old leather-bound book entitled “DOW CHEMICALS”.   ·        I’ve never seen such a book quite like this one before, and would suspect this to be a true piece of American History, outlining the company’s current line of chemical products, some 80+ years ago.   ·        This book does not have a copyright or print date, though the preface consists of a printed letter from the founder of The DOW Chemical Company, Herbert Henry Dow, and is dated October 5, 1928.   ·        There are 101 pages, and half of them contain either glued in prints of colored water paintings (all done by one painter, A. H. K. Hammond), or black and white printed photos. All of the pictures are aerial, ground exterior or inside views of the DOW Chemical plant and buildings of the Midland, Michigan location.  All pictures are titled, and some are titled “Riverfront View, Winter of 1926-1927”, or “Riverfront View, Summer of 1927”, which also leads me to believe the print date of this book to be somewhere around 1928.   ·        This hard cover book is covered with a very soft black leather, bound and stamped on the back by the BurkArt / Burkhardt Co. of Detroit. The front of the book has a beautifully engraved picture of the Dow Chemical Company plant in Midland Michigan (Riverfront view), and is painted with some kind of a special metallic colored paint.  Inside the middle of the book is a 2-page printed photo, full view aerial of the same plant shown on the cover and is hand-written in pen across the lower right corner “Air View The Dow Chemical Company Midland, Michigan”.   ·        Each page contains an outline of chemical properties of the different chemicals DOW was producing at the time.  ·        This book will be wrapped in multiple layers of bubble wrap and shipped USPS Priority Mail, and insured.
