Description
al-Jazūlī, Abū `Abd Allāh Muhammad Ibn Sulaymān Ibn `Abd ar‑Rahmān Ibn Abū; Bakr (d. 870 of the Islamic calendar, corresponding to 1460 AD). DALĀ'IL AL-KHAYYIRĀT (Guide to Good Deeds). This is one of the most famous books of prayer in Islamic literature. 105 leaves; text: folio 1a – 104b; size: 12.6 x 20 cm; written surface: 7 x 13.8 cm; in beautiful, elegant, and clear naskhī script, in black ink, with headings, keywords, and markings in red ink, on beige paper, 11 lines to a page. The Arabic text is completely vocalized. All pages are ruled in several lines of gold, blue, and red throughout. All sentences are separated in gold circles. The opening page, and leaf 20b are illuminated in gold, blue, and red, other colors. Pages 17b and 18a contain two full‑page, miniatures, one of them representing the Ka`bah in Mecca, the other the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad in the Medina Mosque. leaves 19a, 45b, 58b, 75b, 81b, and 90b are illuminated with headpieces in gold, blue, red, and other colors. Folio 16b contains a bouquet of roses in gold and colors. Undated, but most likely from the eighteenth century.
