It is untouched or uncleaned surface.  It has the original free hand, hand painted polychrome decoration on the front and sides in red and green on an off white background band.  There is also hand painted gilt decoration on the top and sides of lid and below the polychrome design.  The background finish of the box is copper-brown Japanning.  There is a slight opening (separation) of the bottom rear solder seam and is very slightly curved inwards, otherwise no open seams or joints.  This could be repaired but is better left as is.  There is a small "dent" in the lid that "pops" back out.  Overall the surface shows some scratches and age "crinkle" to the paint but there is NO loose paint.  Some of the gilt has darkened, especially on the lid and could be made brighter with cleaning but we have left it alone as the age patina is very pleasing.  This is a very nice original, untouched early document box.PLEASE SEE PICTURES FOR MORE DETAILS  BOX will be placed in a cardboard box and sent through the United States Post Office by Priority Mail at a MINIMUM cost of $4.80 ( two pound rate), depending on your location.  Priority shipping costs are based on distance.  I am in Northeast Ohio.Canada and overseas rates are higher.
