This TRIPLE-RULED, FULL LEATHER BOUND set of Waverley Novels are in excellent condition!!ABOUT THE BOOKS:Up for auction is a large and impressive investment grade 48 volume set of Waverly Novels written by Sir Walter Scott. This high quality full leather set was published T & A Constable from 1901 to 1903. Each book measures 6-1/2 inches wide by 8-9/16 inches high. These mahogany full leather volumes are sequentially numbered internally from 1 through 48. This set is complete with no missing volumes. This limited edition set is No. 787 of 1,040 sets. Each volume is numbered by hand, 787. The first volume carries the signature of T. & E.C. Jack--the brothers for whom the books were published.  This "association" may be unique. Presumably, this set can be traced to their personal library.Each volume is date stamped in gilt on the tail spine, and the gilt spine titles are bright. The boards of each volume are triple ruled front and back. Each volume is decorated with a gilt floral device in each of the four corners of the front cover. The blind-stamped and gilt device is a stylized Victorian/art nouveau papyrus flower.These books are larger in size than the typical "standard edition" sets and many other popular editions of this period.Other than very light to moderate wear to the extremities, there is no damage or loss to any of the leather. There are 3 or 4 volumes that show a dark spot on the spine. This is a good-looking and large set.
