Description
Not being a rug dealer, I'm calling this "vintage," as I'm unsure of exact age - except that it was imported by a company named "Abdallah of Atlanta" (Georgia), I believe in the mid-1980's, and NEVER used after it got here. The cost at that time was $4500, and although it has the central hexagonal medallion pattern, I don't know the exact style (although, based on colors, pattern intricacy and precision, tight knotting, and VERY deep and plush pile, I think it is Senneh?). Time to educate me!!! Also, I've been told by local rug dealers that very few rugs really come from Persia, even though everyone tries to say that, and most are copies of Persian designs that are actually made in India (like the Heriz patterns). So, I'll again defer to the experts on the exact origin; I know it was imported from the east, but don't know which country. My mother can't remember if they were importing this for her as used or new, but I think it probably was new - it is in excellent condition, except for some slight coffee colored stains on a few of the warp fringe on one end, and a tiny amount of binding fray on that same end. It has been in storage (away from light) since it arrived here, so I'm guessing the slight stains and fray have to do with vermin (yuk) and no outer wrapper - it was bound with the shipping string, and kraft paper long gone. However, the end damage is minimal and very hard to notice. Pile (weft, knots) shows NO damage anywhere. Smells great; never around pets or smoking. The edge bindings are overall excellent, the knotting is tight and about 12-14 knots per inch, and the pile depth is about 1/2" - this is a VERY heavy and thick rug, with dimension of approximately 5' x 7' or slightly longer (it is shown in a condo living room in front of a 36" fireplace, and I forgot to take my tape measure, but can get exacts if needed). Because it has been in storage for so long, I would still have a professional cleaning and blocking done, as this rug is definitely investment quality, and you could have it appraised at the same time. Please check my seller feedback ratings and my return policy. YOUR SATISFACTION WITH QUALITY AND AUTHENTICITY IS GUARANTEED! I'm starting this rug at my mom's minimum price request, but not putting a reserve on it, and shipping, with insurance, is FREE! This was an "on the run" listing, so if you are interested in this rug and need more specific details and photos (especially of the slight fringe stains and binding fray) please write and I will respond promptly! THANKS for taking the time to look at this lovely oriental rug.
