It was kind of plain, but had "good bones"...yet no real detail to give it any character. Using mouldings I've given this plain-Jane hutch a little Colonial charm...Federal style crown moulding at the top, with wooden rosettes at the center & top corners...also at the bottom corners of the hutch & fluted moulding on the sides...tiny pieces of Beaded moulding underline the crown and is used again under the drawers and around the bottom shelf. Two holes have been cut in the bottom back to allow for a lamp cord. It has a solid pine plank back that has been painted in Mustard and aged with Brown Glaze...the outside has been painted in a color called Peppercorn, which is between Gray & Blue...a beautiful Colonial color, aged with a Dark Brown Glaze; then using an Ebony wax, I highlighted the raised portions of the mouldings, as well as, other areas I wanted to detail. The measurements are 58" wide, upper hutch is 12" deep & the lower portion is 21" deep, it is 84" tall...standing this tall, it really gives a presence in our family room. The shelved hutch gives you ample room to display an old pewter collection, pottery, old china, or whatever you love to collect...Wonderful at Christmas...fun to fill with old Santas & Snowmen, greens & berries, Nativity characters & candles. There are 3 drawers, on the two larger ones I've used antique iron bin pulls...the bottom portion is open and is a great space to display old crocks & jars, sugar buckets, or big baskets filled with seasonal things...This is the 3rd old china hutch that I have "made-over"...I have so much fun with these. They've been around long enough and used enough to aquire plenty of dents, dings & wear....certainly not in new condition - who wants new anyway! These older pieces are typically very well made and just need a new "old" look! Please email me with any questions.
