The underside of the piece is stamped with three hallmarks, although the stamping is light and a little difficult to see. I have, however, been able to identify the Egyptian "lotus" mark, which was used after 1946 to denote silver and the Cairo assay office with fineness mark of 90% minimum silver content (close to sterling quality). The third mark that is a date mark that I haven't been able to read. I believe, however, that this piece dates to the 1940s or 50s, because of the estate from which it came. The tray measures 7" in diameter and is in very good condition with the exception of some light surface scratching on the tray surface and "scuffing" that looks like it was caused by an abrasive cleaner - this is fairly minor and could be buffed by a qualified silversmith. The edge of the tray has lovely "flower and berry" decorative detailing. This is a very well made piece and quite solid, weighing ----8.4 oz.
