Victorian Aesthetic 11" Pickle Castor Extremely Ornate! Up for auction this week, fresh from a mid-Ohio estate, we are offering a fabulous Victorian silver plate and EAPG "Cupid&Venus" pickle castor dating to the 1880's - 1890's . This insert was made by Richards & Hartley Glass until 1875 and was reissued by U.S.Glass in 1891 . The frame on this castor has a very strong "Aesthetic" or "Eastlake" design to it and lends itself very nicely to the rather busy design elements of the castor insert . The lid has an added "finger ring" attached to it which makes it not only practical but rather unusual also . The ornate fork I am sure is a later addition ( signed R. Wallace and dated 1902 ) but compliments the castor rather nicely . The insert fits the frame perfectly....as does the lid to the insert . You will not be disappointed ! The frame is marked on the bottom: Meriden B. Company.......#11 This pickle castor stands 11" tall, about 5" across at its widest point ( the ornate top ) . The insert measure 4-1/2" tall , 3-1/4" dia. (all measurements are approximate). As for condition . . . Considering it's 100+ years of age the ORIGINAL silver plate on the frame is in excellent condition , with no breaks or repairs and very little plate loss . The late 1800's EAPG insert is in over all excellent condition also . Absolutely NO chips , cracks or repairs . Just a wonderful addition to your pickle castor collection or Victorian decor .
