Modelairplanes Store USS Carl Vinson CVN-70 Nimitz Class Carrier Model Ship Hand-carved and Hand-Painted Mahogany Model USS Carl Vinson CVN-70 Nimitz Class Supercarrier Model Ship   USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) was first commissioned on March 13, 1982.  On March 1, 1983, it embarked on an eight-month around the world cruise.  CVN-70 steamed in the waters of the Caribbean Sea, Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, South Atlantic and Indian Oceans.   In 1984, USS Carl Vinson received the highest marks during an operation readiness examination in February.  In May 1984, USS Carl Carl Vinson participated in RIMPAC '84, a multi-national exercise involving ships from nations including Canada, Japan, Australia, as well as the United Kingdom.  On October 14, 1984, USS Carl Vinson began a seven-month deployment in the Western Pacific.  From early January 1985 to mid April, the carrier was deployed in the Indian Ocean for 107 consecutive days at sea operations and from November 1984 to May 1985, received its first Meritorious Unit Commendations for operations.   On August 12, 1986, USS Carl Vinson deployed on its second Western Pacific/Indian Ocean cruise and its third deployment in all.  It also became the first aircraft to operate in the Bering Sea.  The aircraft carrier transited the Bering Sea once again in January 1987 after its extensive operations in the Indian Ocean and North Arabian Sea.  It made another challenging and successful transit of the Bering Sea on its fourth deployment on June 15, 1988.  The aircraft carrier's fifth deployment for the Western Pacific Ocean and Sea of Japan was on February 1, 1990.  It's sixth deployment was on February 17, 1994 to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Southern Watch adn its third Admiral Flatley Award for aviation safety, after it returned to Alameda on August 17, 1994.  USS Carl Vinson departed for its seventh deployment on May 14, 1996 In early November 1998, it was deployed to Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf.  On December 19, 1998, it departed for the Persian Gulf, and launched airstrikes in support of Operation Desert Fox and Operation southern Watch and the strike continued into March 1999.  In July 1999, USS Carl Vinson was drydocked for 11 months at the Puget Sound Naval shipyard, as the navy upgrades the ship and spent more than $230 million.   From January to June 2001, the carrier underwent rigrous training for its twelfth deployment overseas.  In January 2003, USS Carl Vinson was scheduled for a one month work up for flight Deck Quals.  The ship was extended at sea indefinitely during Operation Iraqi Freedom.  USS Carl Vinson won the Marjorie Sterett Battleship Award in 2004 for being the most batle-ready ship in the U.S. Pacific fleet.   From January to August 2005, USS Carl Vinson completed a World Cruise including port cals to Singapore, Guam, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Rhodes, Greece and Lisbon, Portugal.  By early 2010, USS Carl Vinson will be joining the USS Nimitz and USS Ronald Reagan will be transited back to the Pacific Ocean and be based at NAS North Island.     Model #: MBACCV16 Scale: 1/800 Length: 16.3” Width: 5” Height: 3.8” Material Used: Mahogany Wood   Modelworks: Hand-crafted Museum Quality Display Ship Models Modelworks has been producing the world’s finest collection of hand-made and hand-painted model ships for over 20 years.
