Description
IMPORTANT c1882 TIFFANY STERLING SILVER "NEO-CLASSICAL" COMPOTE; ELEGANT RAISED CIRCULAR PARTIAL FLUTED DESIGN; LAVISHLY DETAILED RAISED FLORAL AND SWIRLING VINE DECORATION; GOLD WASH; EXCELLENT CONDITION; 39 OUNCES We are quite pleased to offer this museum worthy, c1882 Tiffany sterling silver compote. In the coveted Neo-classical form. The compote in raised circular design. Thick step and banded upper rim. Adds both visual appeal and structural strength to the design. Elegant "petal" fluted lower body. The finger like panels rise and gradually widen at mid-section. Lavishly detailed swirling leaf and floral decoration. Boldly fashioned flowers. Nestled within the ruffled leaf and gently curling vine. Set against fine tiny pebble background. Accentuates the primary design beautifully. This leaf and floral decoration identical to that found on a slightly earlier Tiffany pitcher. Illustrated in Carpenter's text page 73. Carpenter refers to the design as a "band of garlands and flowers". Original, rich, brilliant gold wash interior. The compote supported upon thick, well formed stepped circular base. Unique, repeating heart shape engraved detail to centre base. Classic gadrooned border. Finishes the compote perfectly. "CHK" (?) monogramm interior centre, no monogramm to exterior body. This elegant, Tiffany sterling Neo-classical compote is 10 inches diameter and 5 1/2 inches tall. Exceptionally thick, heavy guage sterling construction, weighs 38 1/2 ounces. Excellent condition. Near pristine. Appears little, if ever used. Rich, lustreous sterling patina throughout. Stands perfectly firm on table or sideboard. The elegant raised floral and swirling vine decoration retains its original crisp, vibrant detail. No rubbing to the high points. Few very faint surface lines to interior centre only. None can be felt. Bit of wear to gold wash. Extremely crisp, well struck hallmarks to underside as shown. The early Tiffany pattern number "7036" denotes c1882 production. For the discerning collector of the finest 19th century Tiffany sterling. An elegant, c1882 Tiffany sterling silver compote. Gold wash interior. In near pristine condition.
