Description
Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 This is a Victorian (late 19th century) porcelain serving dish made by the factory of Carl Tielsch in Altwasser (a town in Germany, in the Prussian province of Silesia, now Walbrzych, Poland). 13 x 10 x 3 inches. Hand-painted in orange and light blue with gold highlights. Tielsch is a well known and highly collectible producer of fine porcelain and china. Many of Tielsch's simpler designs for oyster plates, etc., go for hundreds of dollars on the antiques market. I can find no example of any work as elaborate as this. The shop's initials appear on the back of the plate, along with a number (5224/43), but I can not locate this exact mark in any of the standard books on the subject or on Tielsch. The lobster motif was a popular one during the Victorian period. The dish is in pristine condition and the colors very fresh. I would be happy to provide further pictures and/or information.
