The Century Atlas of the World by Benjamin E. SmithPublished in New York by The Century Co. in 1897.  Three-quarter leather with marbled blue green and black paper and raised bands.  Leather is rubbed on edges and corners are bumped  and showing board.  Tight binding.  Pages have gilt top edge. Gilt title on spine. Folio-over 12"-15" tall.  There are 117 double page color map plates (12 3/4" X 17") of modern maps + 16 pages of historical maps + 380pp of index.  Maps are in very good condition with no foxing but pages are colored from age. A few corner are turned, map No. 1 The World, the first page is loose, and the last map has a small tear at the top of the page which does not interfere with the map.Front marbled endpaper is loose from book and edge is ripped.  First blank leaf, title page and Preface page have small tears at top of page. Index pages 295-313 are severely ripped an attempt was made to repair them by original owner. Index pages 333-334 also have a large rip. This rare book has beautiful cartography and is a solid heavy volume. This volume will be shipped in a Priority Flat Rate Box box due to its size and weight. Media Mail is not an option. Insurance is optional but recommended. We guarantee buyer satisfaction.  There is never a handling fee.  Will gladly ship internationally but customs documents will reflect purchase price. If a buyer denies insurance, any loss belongs to the buyer. All books are sent Media Mail packaged in tissue paper, sealed in plastic, wrapped in newspaper and then covered with bubble wrap before being placed in a padded mailer.  Second option for mailing is Priority Mail Fixed Rate Box with similar inside wrapping.  Please send e-mail if you have questions.
