The student of carpet design often has cause to marvel at the ability of the peasant weavers of the Orient to create exciting and expressive forms out of the simplest geometric motifs.  The Anatolian village of Kayseri provides a further example of this.  The key to its effectiveness is the intricate layout combined with the expert use of pastels dyed in hand spun wool from natural dyes. The bold medallion on a floral field and border design are unmistakable, as is the structure:  The warps and wefts are of cotton, the weave medium, quite firm but flexible to the handle. This beautiful rug from Kayseri in central Turkey is tightly woven with approx 150 KSPI and is about 40 years old.  The exact size is 6'8" x 9"10".  It is in perfect condition with full pile, original ends and selvedges, no holes, repairs, moth, color run or rot.  The colors have aged evenly as has the pile with no low spots or traffic wear.  The beautiful pastel shades have gained that patina of age which it will maintain for many years and continue to improve as this rug ages.  The study construction of cotton foundation and hand spun wool will give many more years of enjoyment to its owner and it is destined to become a cherished heirloom.  It has been professionally cleaned and is ready for immediate use.
