Description
This is a good 'Tavistock' model theodolite No VO 41490 by Cooke Troughton & Simms complete with a robust Watts tripod. As far as I can assess the instrument is in excellent optical, mechanical, and cosmetic condition. The 7.5 inch (190 mm) telescope has a 1.5 inch (38 mm) objective, an adjustable eyepiece with two pivoted shades, and internal focusing which gives a sharp, bright, inverted image with crosshairs. There are two good spirit levels. The hotizontal and vertical circles are read via two pivoted, focusing telescopes each with a pivoted shade. The side of the theodolite has an electrical socket presumably for an internal lighting system. The whole is mounted on a tribrach with quick release clamp, centering plate, and large diameter threaded tripod mount. There is a good fitted mahogany case with outer canvas case, a dust cap, and a sun shroud. The good tripod has a working spot spirit level and a label for Watts. The case measures 22 x 18 x 8 inches (560 x 300 x 200 mm) and weighs over 15 kg. The tripod extends from 43 to 66 inches (109 - 167 cm) and weighs 5.9 kg. Shipping & handling will require two packages and cost £26 for a two day UK delivery; overseas more. No reserve.
