Description
Important German Centerpiece Silver, Cut Glass - Schurmann I am offering an extremely rare silver centerpiece done by Schurmann in XIX century. The work on this piece is marvelous, and stunningly detailed. Parts of this piece are gold gilded, which I have tried to show on the pictures. Gold gilding harmonize with silver pieces, what creates an amazing adornment. This is the first time I see such scrupulous gilding work. This piece has an original cut glass bowl. This is where a difference between a silversmith and a real master is exemplified!Item is in very good condition! I did not find any dings or dents. No chips on the glass. The centerpiece has an engraving that reads "Munus e commisione perpetua Johannis Hartmanni Beieri medici quondam reipublicae Francofurtensis, et Ursulae Botzhemiae, conjugum, 1881." From what I was able to find this is in Latin and it commemorates a marriage of Johannis Hartmanni Beieri and Ursulae Botzhemiae in Frankfurt. However, their wedding was not in 1881, but either at the end of XVI century or at the beginning of XVII century in Frankfurt. So this writing was most likely to commemorate important weddings that have happened in Frankfurt for some other occasion that took place in 1881. (if anyone has more information on this piece please let me know.) Schurmann were manufacturers of silver in Frankfurt supplying amongst others the Prussian Royal Family. Most of their work was done for custom orders, and there is not too many of these examples surfacing on the antique market. Three other examples of Schurmann work were sold at Christies in 2002, and the cheapest one of them reaching almost 25000 dollars. Also, I have found another piece of Schurmann work in a store of one of the most prestigious London silver dealers - asking price on this piece is 45,000 British Pounds (~80,000 US dollars).Size: Bowl diameter: 29 cmWidth of the base: 18.5 cmWeight of the silver alone: 491 gramsHeight: 27 cmS
