The hand can be moved to a number from 1-12, and once te lateral button is pressed, the hand moves to 12 striking to each number. Lets say the hand is moved to 4, when the hand reaches 3, the hammer will strike the big bell, an so on including when it reaches 12. A total of 4 rings. As you can see, the bell is on top of the walnut box, and as you cannot see, it has a beautiful sound. Patented in Jan 22, 1895 by O G Halstrom, and distributed by Macoy Publishing & Masonic Supply Co, 45-47-49 John Str New York. Stands 10" tall, the bell is 6" in diameter. Fully functional and in great shape. Quite an unusual looking antique gong.       I am a man of few words...... and many pictures.
