Description
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 A small Staffordshire Battersea Enameled Box, c. 1810. Black transfer lettering on blue lid reads ‘Friendship a name for ever blest; in that I live and love to rest’ with border. Blue base (same color blue as the background on the lid) is molded and there is a mirror on the underside of the lid. The box measures 1 ½” x 1 1/2” and is approximately 1” high. Very good, as found condition, which is to say it is not perfect, but not bad, either! There are no cracks, chips or breaks, some very faint crackle-lines on the front side, and the only loss in the battersea enamel is an area on the bottom (note that this is note a crack, but and area where the blue enamel has peeled off), and a tiny area on the back-edge of the lid where the blue does not seem to have taken (rather than peeled off). The lid closes snugly, but the mirror has a “K-shaped” crack. Little, if any, silvering loss on the mirror. Guaranteed to be an early 19th Century example of a Battersea box. Buyer prepays, and Postage is included in the final price for US buyers; international customers will pay approximately 50% of the international shipping charges.
