These chairs are some of the finest carved Portuguese colonial chairs extant. Note the strongly shaped front legs, which are profusely carved at the knees with the English style C-scroll. Also note the shaped seat apron, which is further carved. Note the very shapely crook back chair stiles that conforms to one's back, which, of course, are shaped all of the solid, not bent.
