This is a show stopper and a great conversation piece in any home or shop. This early ceramic work of art is by Émile Gallé (born at Nancy, 8 May 1846 – Nancy, September 23, 1904). The Japanese influence is very clear in this work and from the base to the expresive detailes on the face one can not avoid it. The ceramic statue stands 22" tall or 56 cm. and is very hard to find. I have seen another at the Miami Show - over 10 years ago and the price was $6900. I moved to Portland in 1994 and I haven't donne the big NY, and Miami shows since.The mark - on blue underneath.** The condition is EXCELLENT ** No hairlanes or restorations ** One tiny enamel loss is highlighted in one of the photos ( # 4 ). Looks big in the photo but is tiny an unnoticable on the piece in person ** The blue mark on the back of the base is clear, and shown in one of the photos. Comes from a very nice collection from Belgium. Piece is looking for a loving home. ***** ABOUT Émile Gallé ***** : He was a French artist who worked mainly in glass, and is considered to be one of the major forces in the French Art Nouveau movement. Gallé was the son of a faience and furniture manufacturer and studied philosophy, botany, and drawing in his youth. He later learned glassmaking at Meisenthal and came to work at his father's factory in Nancy following the Franco-Prussian War.
