Description
NO RESERVE This wonderful artifact is a natural 3.40 ct. green emerald in matrix which was found on one of the galleons of the famous 1715 Spanish Plate Fleet which sank off the coast of Florida on July 30th, 1715, with nearly 1000 lives lost. This fleet was the most prolific in history in terms of the number and amount of gold and silver treasure coins that have been found. The Fleet sank on what is now called "Florida's Treasure Coast" between Ft. Pierce and Sebastian Inlet, Florida. Mel Fisher of Atocha fame started working these wrecks in 1962, working alongside and for Real Eight Corporation and Kip Wagner. The wrecks have been featured prominently in National Geographic Magazine, with wonderful photos of coins and artifacts which have been recovered. An emerald like this one from these wrecks are rare and missing from many collections. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Frank Noga, a specialist in Spanish Treasure and Treasure Hunting Literature. Don't miss out on this rare artifact. If from the Atocha it would sell for thousands of dollars in Key West.
