Description
Massive Russian Sugar Bowl - St. Petersburg, Sven Petter Lindman, 1831 I am offering a very rare sugar bowl made in 1831 by swedish silversmith working in St. Petersburg, Russia. Lindman came to St. Petersburg in 1820, where he became a master silversmith. Examples of his work are of very high quality and beauty. Unfortunately, not too many examples of his mastersmith survived and very rarely surface on the market. Mr. Lindman died in 1837. This sugar bowl is of enormous size and is made of heavy gauge silver. The cover finial is most likely made of ivory. The bowl is gold gilded inside. It is hallmarked with maker's mark: "Lindman", Russian silver mark "84" (equals to 875/1000), assayer mark and year. This is an authentic sugar bowl from 1831. Width: 9.75 inch (25cm) (handle to handle) Height: 6.25 inch (16cm) (to the highest point on the handle) Weight: 608 grams (19.6 troy oz)
