It is made of solid bronze, with extremely fine detailing, rarely encountered figures, seal and date record coming together in one piece.   The long case opens at one end and was used for storing a reed pen. The long case’s lid is slightly loose, yet has no detaching or broken parts and does not hinder the item’s function, which can be easily fixed if any necessary.   The beautiful bronze inkwell is securely attached to the side of the pen-case. It has a beautiful mussel shell-shaped hinged lid.   The base of the inkwell has a beautiful maker's mark, stamped in Russian Cyrillic alphabet with two headed eagle royal seal and date record of 1776 ! A beautifully etched border surrounds the maker's mark. The inkwell still retains some of the dry black ink.   The long portion of the case is also decorated with beautiful flowers and one flower-like seal (which gently reminds of a human face) at the center of the one side. The other side of the long portion is also decorated with flowers and with a wolf-like mythical beast at its center.   The long horizontal part measures 20 cm. Excluding the decorative end caps, the pen-case has a 16.5 cm length and 1.4 cm thickness. The bronze inkwell stands 4 cm’s tall.  At the upper and lower parts the inkwell measures 2.6 cm and at the thicker middle part it measures 3.4 cm.     There are no missing parts or pieces, and there are no distracting scratches or dents.   Despite the extreme metal engravings and advanced agedness, the item’s metal has not any millimeter spot of rust or slimmed site.   The thick metal is extremely nice protected in excellent quality without loosing its beautiful complexion of antiquity.   This will be a wonderful addition to any collection, especially one pertaining to the wonderful bronze workmanship, exotic calligraphy tools or Russian designer’s metal art!     Place a Bid!
