Description
Rare Swedish Bronze Signal Cannon with Sea Carriage (please allow time for all the images to load) Item Location: Manila, Philippines The Rare Bronze Signal Cannon has a Swedish Crown seal with Gustavus Frederick (Gunfounders Mark) and other interesting markings throughout! This Scandinavian Cannon was recovered off of a shipwreck in the southern Philippines. One thing that makes this particular cannon so interesting is because of all the unique markings on it. See marking details below to the right of each photo. The Ships Cannon Carriage is based on 1750's Cannon Carriage Design - all the way down to the brass hardware. It is made of the hardest wood - Kamagong - which is exactly the same hardness and strength as Mahogany wood. This item would be a GREAT DISPLAY, DECORATION and CONVERSATION piece for any; home, office, store, museum, etc! Photo on Left - 1820 stamped on top of the breech just behind the touch hole - This may be the WEIGHT in Skalpunds (but I haven't been able to calculate it to pounds yet). Photo on Left - Rxxx on the 1st Reinforcing just forward of the touch hole (no idea what these letters mean or stand for). Photo on Left - Scandinavian Crown seal with the letters GF stamped in the center on the 1st Reinforcing just forward of the R. GF is Gustavus Frederick (the Swedish Gunfounder). Photo on Left - No 163xxx stamped on the 1st Reinforcing just forward of the Crown seal - This should be the GUN NUMBER. Photo on Left - L L 7e R Axxxx de Cxxx stamped on the 2nd Reinforcing just forward of the trunnions (no idea what these letters mean or stand for). Photo on Left - Large Sxxxx stamped on the top of the muzzle - This should have something to do with the GUN SIZE. Photo on Right - Bore diameter is 2 5/16 " (6 cm) diameter. Scandinavian Cannon Measurements & Details (Barrel): Total Length = 31" (78.74 cm) Diameter at Breech = 6" (15.5 cm) Diameter at Chase = 4" (10 cm) Diameter at Muzzle = 4 3/4" (12 cm) Bore Diameter = 2 5/16" (6 cm) Trunnion Diameter = 2" (5 cm) Approximate Weight = 100 lbs (45.36 kilograms) Wood Sea Carriage Measurements & Details: Length = 18" (45.7 cm) Width = 17.5" (44.5 cm) Height = 10" (25.5 cm) Weight = 21.6 lbs (10.5 kgs.)
