With the upcoming Democratic Convention being held in Denver, now is a perfect opportunity to view and own an important part of American history. Designed by Mr. Thomas Ustick Walter, this ornately carved desk furnished the U.S. House of Representatives Chamber of the United States Capitol Building when it underwent renovation in 1856-1857. It was manufactured by the Boston, Massachusetts firm of Joseph and Doe Hazelton Co.. When the House underwent another renovation in 1873 the desks were removed and some were sold. This is one of those desks. This original desk has been professionally restored and is in excellent condition. The ornate carving includes a federal shield with stars and stripes, a beaded “world” globe, four beaded five-point stars, an ornate latticed front, and other elaborate Victorian scrolled carvings. The desk retains its original wheels and original glass ink well bottle. Dimensions: 34 1/2" h x 29" w x 21" deep. The desk is available for viewing in Platteville, Colorado (45 minutes north of downtown Denver). Prior to taking delivery, the buyer or their agent must personally view and accept the desk in its as-is condition. Buyer must make all arrangements for shipping the desk to its final destination.
