The letter is mounted with an etching of the composer as a framed display, measuring 15.5 inches by 22 inches to the frame edges. The aging double mat passe-partout exposes 8.50 x 6.25 inches of the letter and 5.75 x 5.75 inches of the etching. Not examined out of frame. - While there is mild foxing to the etching, the letter is in outstanding condition with faint vertical and horizontal folds and only slight age toning to paper, particularly at its edges. - The following handwritten English translation is taped to the back: - Dear Mr. Angelo, I have just this moment received your letter of the 23rd current with a bill. I will check it categorically first and will send you (as you yourself have figured) a new draft. I am writing these few lines to let you know that I received infinite kindness in Paris from the nieces of Mr. Leher (?), Minister of Finance, and that, if you have not yet written to Turin, I will be able to go to the minister directly myself. I am certain to be favored, however it is necessary that you send me immediately a short rough draft of a letter in order that I might write to the Minister. With hasty greeting and I call myself Your aff. friend Rossini - Paris, 27 March 1865- - - Rossini composed a total of thirty-nine 39 operas. He is best known for Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville), La Cenerentola (Cinderella) and Guillaume Tell (William Tell). The overture to the latter work has become very popular as an orchestral piece apart from its operatic origin.
