Description
This is a Very RARE and VERY Detailed OLD (19th Century) horse weathervane. LOOK Very Closely at his head! Look Colsely at the serious look on his face! It is the most Detailed head that I have ever seen on a horse weathervane---his Veins, his Eyes, his Nostrils and his Cheeks, etc.! His mouth is Open! His head is SOLID Zinc but the mouth and throat cavity is hollow and open so that you can see down into the inside of his head and throat. If you know much about OLD horse weathervanes you know that their mouths are rarely actually "open" to the extent that you can see down and into the throat, especially considering the Fantastic Detail of his head. In my 38 years of collecting I have never seen this particular form. It has a nice Old Patina that somewhat varies from the top of the zinc head to the body. This Horse weathervane could possibly be the centerpiece of a good collection and at the Very least an Important addition to any collection. The horse itself measures 31" long from the tip of his nostrils to the tip of his tail and 17-1/2" tall from the bottom of his "center" hoof to the top of it's ears. AS you can see in one of the pictures, his tail is cracked but still attached to the body and has been repaired from the inside to make it strong. Email me with any questions.
