Description
Tea Canisters from England - Tole or Transfer Painted Size of matching Tea Canisters - 9 3/4" x 5 3/4" including lids. Store antiques. Good for storage and display. In the top of one of the cans is a cut-out cardboard for the top that says "TATE AND LYLE FINEST CUBE" (England). I don't think it originated with the tea cans, but they may have sold the product that came in the canisters. The lady I purchased from said she brought them from England. The Asian designs appear to be tin plate transfer in 4 colors: red, black, silver & gold. This technique was popular in late 19th century to early 20th century. Also, designs may be of Japanese Geishas serving tea. Condition: very used but in appealing wear made over time. Tops of cans have the most wear and scratches (photos don't show how much wear). From early 1900s? Photos are left to right to view 4 sides. Colors are more consistent than photos show and a stronger, somewhat darker red overall. Also, dress colors on figures are gold & silver on all sides (photo reflection distortion). Priority Mail to USA is 12.00. We package well and ship in a day. Thanks for shopping/bidding at 1dandyfind!!On Sep-07-08 at 10:47:04 PDT, seller added the following information:They grab a magnet, and there is a very shiny silver showing inside which looks like stainless steel (mixed-metal?) which would take a magnet. Tin doesn't take a magnet, so they are plated in tin. Please ask questions! Thanks, Nancy
