Hooper spent his life to build up his collection that was shown in his private museum. Is it really necessary to present this book ?  This is the corner stone for the library of the oceanic art collectors, together with the Fuller Collection. The collection was especially strong in Polynesian art, with numerous Tongan, Fiji clubs and artifacts, UU, and including RaroTongan Staff gods, North West Coast, etc. The collections was documented by the Grandson of Hooper, Steven Phelps and Hooper himself in his last years. After the publication of this major book, the collection was sold in several vacations at Christies London in 1979. The different essays written by Stephen Phelps are probably the best synthesis on each different cultures I have read to date. This book, printed in 500 copies in 1976 has never been reprinted and is now typically priced around 1500-2000 euros. If you do not have it already in your library while being an oceanic art collector, it is time to go for it ! Dimension :  30 cm, Quarto format. Condition : Good condition, with jacket, no page missing, no inscription, pages clean and bright.
