Description   PRE-COLUMBIAN SHAMAN Ca. 400-700 AD.             DESCRIPTION I believe this piece to be Zapotecan of the Classic era. It is made of strikingly bright green stone possibly aventurine having some gold flecks and a variation of green tones and translucency. The Shaman has a Jaguar's "head" headdress and on his knees, holding a bowl in his hands, he is naked except for a loincloth-like skirt. The piece is highly polished in most areas, but not so much in the harder to reach areas. There are areas that you can see the markings of hand tools, and there is a divot out of the left upper arm. This piece shows no repairs or breaks ( other than the divot ). It is 4.500" tall, 1.625" wide and 2.00" deep. This piece is part of a privet collection of some 45 pieces that I will be posting for sale over the next few months.
