Description
Native American Buffalo Effigy Axe Page Estate John Page worked in the oil industry in the early 1950's in California.   Mr. Page was an avid collector and amateur archaeologist.  This Buffalo Effigy Ceremonial Axe was one of the most prized artifacts in his collection, but there is no record of where he found this item.  The axe is made from a green-gray granite-like material, and chatoyant in nature. Under 90 power magnification it shows wonderful mineralization, as it does under even lower power. Manganese deposits cover the surface, even after soaking in acetone for 4 days. Natural iron oxides combined with calcium are also easily visible. All tool marks are consistent with the age and there are no new tool marks, modern polishing marks, or polishing compound deposits, only the old and original ones remain.  This piece has been verified by myself under 90 power microscopic conditions, as well as, by Fred Gumbart of Arizona Galleries (licensed and accredited appraiser), and Dr. Timothy Jones PhD, Anthropology Professor, from the University of Arizona (also, a licensed and accredited appraiser).  All three of us, and our microscope, will testify in a court of law to the authenticity of this most wonderful item. It is an authentic Effigy axe, so please bid with confidence.  The axe is 4" long, 2" wide, and 1" thick.  It has a minor chip on the ear and chin area, but as this was most likely used for Ceremonial purposes, the slight damage probably came after it was no longer used. This sweet axe would be a highlight to display as a center piece, framed, and encircled with other Native American artifacts in your collection. To date, we have verified and sold over 800 pieces of this famous collection, without one single complaint. You may view this item or any of our other antiquities, fine art or artifacts at our gallery, by appointment only. We are Antiquities, Plus... David Fredericks 2752 North Campbell Ave. Tucson, AZ 85719 Phone 520-991-2153 Refunds will be made only upon receipt by us (within 14 days of buyer's receipt of the item), of a written verification from a major University Department Head, or Major Museum Curator from a recognized institution in the appropriate field. NOTE: For international sales, buyer is responsible for all import duty taxes.
