Although also a silversmith and jeweller he is now best known as functionalist innovator and a key figure in the development of industrial lighting. His significance in the story of twentieth century design is becoming increasingly recognised by museums worldwide.These examples are executed in cream - rather than black - lacquered steel. Both are stamped with the factory marks 'Kaiser Idell Original' to the rear of the shade.The lamps stand at approximately 25cm in height. The diameter of the shade is about 15cm.The lamps are in excellent used condition with some expected minor wear to the surface of the lacquer consistent with age and no dents, deep scratches or other significant damages to the metal. One of the lamps has a couple of minor bumps - one to the shade and another to the rim of the base -  that I have shown in close up photos (pics 6 & 7). In my opinion this wear is minor and does not diminish the lamps' visual impact. This model, originally designed for hospital use, is extremely hard to find and are uncommon in cream. To find a pair is remarkable.In both cases the wiring has been renewed at some point in the recent past by a previous owner and both of the lamps work. However, in common with all vintage electrical items, they must be checked by a qualified electrician before use.
