A great and very rare example of early 19th Century Italian "Arte Povero" (Poor Man's Art). The beautiful decorations are hand colored decoupage images that are all original and in wonderful condition! There is a total of 57 images, none are missing! The paint and hardware is also original, it even has the interior wallpaper inside! The primary wood is Walnut. The armoire is collapsible, it is made in two parts and separates in the middle. Though somewhat tattered, there is a stamp inside with the town of ASTI and the date of MAY 6, 1816 clearly visible. The Town of Asti is in the Piedmont Region of Northern Italy.The lock is original and working.
