Description
Outstanding Retouched Levallois Flake, Mousterian   DescriptionType: laterally retouched Levallois flakePaleolithic Period, Industry: Middle Paleolithic, Mousterian Dating: the particular site from approx. 130.000 B.C., stage 6 of the oxygen-isotope chronology, up to ca. 40.000 B.C Description: Size: length 6,5 cm, weight 33 grams Shape, Retouch: an excellent Levallois target-flake with fine faceted platform remnant and the negative scars of the core’s reduction face preparation on the exterior side. The tool has a lateral retouch at all edges, but at least three particular working edges can be identified: first is the distal end with a serrated retouch at the end and a small nose at the transition end /right edge. Second is the left edge which presents a continuous retouch, but the proximal part has a flat notch where retouch is more considerable. And third is the convex proximal end of the right edge with a pretty converging retouch (endscraper), unfortunately barely visible in the picture Raw-material: flint, covered by a thick creamy patination Preservation: very well, no modern damages. Some matrix of the original site layer still adheres to the exterior side. It can be removed with acid, but we think it is a fine additional proof of authenticity Origin, Site: a famous Paleolithic site near the Dordogne valley, Dept.
