Description
This is a beautiful original woodblock print by Jun'ichiro Sekino (1914-1988) that he cut and printed himself of one of his sons. He had one daughter and two sons and they are pictured as woodblock illustrations #37, #42 and this one as #43 in Oliver Statler's 1959 book: "Modern Japanese Prints: An Art Reborn." The image measures 18 1/2"x 15" plus a one inch linen mat and a narrow white area of the paper between them. Below the image, it is numbered 18/100 and signed by Sekino in pencil. Statler's book dates this woodblock print at 1952. The importance and rarity of this print is apparent by the inclusion in Statler's book. The condition is excellent, as I can see. I purchased it over twenty years ago from a Japanese woodblock collector, but I would guess that it had been framed in the 1960s or 70s, as it has a simple concave frame with a thin gold insert and non-glare glass. I have never disturbed the frame, but if it is sold, the glass and frame would have to be removed for shipping. However, it could be picked up intact.
