Description
We acquired this original charcoal rendering in 1998 at an estate sale in Spokane, WA. This work was imported into the U.S. around 1925 by a wealthy merchant family, of which we have documentation for. It was passed on to their son, who died in Spokane, WA. in 1991. We have documentation for these events, to include a Certified copy of the former owner's Death Certificate. We are selling our home, downsizing, and thus selling this work. This is an ORIGINAL - VERIFIED work dated "Octobre 19, 1552". It has been preserved in a museum mounting/frame by a professional. We have extensive background research documentation that will accompany this historical piece. We will email you a copy of the date and artist signature upon request. We are now seniors, downsizing, and have our over-sized home up for sale. Our new home will not allow for the "accumulated stuff" that has accumulated over our lifetime, thus the reason for the sale of this work. It could well be priceless, however to do the work that is necessary to document the artist, whom may be "Vincenso Foppa", would require us to ship the work to the Met. Museum in New York. We have never been that dedicated, thus it remains at this reduced price. We will deliver to any location within 200 miles of Spokane, WA, or we will ship for free to any location in the U.S. via UPS - ground. We cannot assume any shipping liability, nor will UPS provide the adequate insurance. If you wish to utilize your shipper, then we will provide $500. in shipping reimbursement to you, or your shipper. The Priest who is depicted on this rendering is St. Francis Xavier who was born in the Castle of Xavier near Sanguesa, Spain, April 7, 1506. His ministry within the Jesuit Order would require more space than available in this offering. He died of a fever in Sancian, China on December 2, 1552 - approximately 2 years after the date on this rendering. He was Canonized by Pope Gregory XV on March 12, 1622. The Spanish nobleman depicted is Alvaro de Bazan, the Marquis of Santa Cruz. He was born at Granada, the son of a naval officer, on December 12, 1526. He was also a benefactor of Saint Xavier. He was an outstanding Spanish Admiral with a number of successful battles to his credit. He was "given" the Spanish town of Santa Cruz, known today as Valencia by King Phillip for his naval achievements. If you wish to utilize an escrow service here in Spokane, WA. for this transaction that is acceptable. Upon acceptance of your offer, as demonstrated by a Certified Cashiers Check, deposited into escrow, we will deliver this rendering to the escrow company of our mutual agreement. Upon clearance of your check, we will ship as per the above description. We are available to visit with you on this work if you have any questions.
