Start Price USD 165.00 Current Price USD 165.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Sunday, August 17, 2008 End Time Sunday, August 24, 2008 Location China Spring, TX See more about 'Original 19th Century Leather 15-Pc Sewing Box & Tools ' Description Unbelievably Rare 19th Century Leather Sewing Box & Tools From the estate of a long-time antique collector in Waco, Texas, we are pleased to offer this most unusual sewing kit.  You won't find many like this one...an original leather sewing box, certainly 19th century, with the most wonderful original tools.  There are 15 pieces, one of which has fallen into the bottom of the box but may be retrieved.  I believe the four light-colored pieces are ivory (needle case, crochet hooks & a brass w/ ivory base) and that some of the other pieces are brass.  A most unusal feature of this set are the two glass perfume bottles, both of which still have their little glass stoppers and lovely brass molded tops.  The scissors are still sharp and the thimble is oval in shape.  I believe only three tiny pieces are missing.  Approximate measurements are a little over 4 inches tall, 4 5/8 inches wide and 2 5/8 inches deep.  I am not an expert in this area, and if anyone has information or corrections to this listing, please feel free to email. The condition is amazing, I think, for the age.  The velvet base for the tools is still intact with only minor wear, and the velvet liner in the lid is also intact with the original piping edge.  The mirror is unbroken and intact with wear or fading of the silvering.  The metal encasing the tools is all original and intact with rust or wear but in excellent working condition.  The clasp meets together perfectly and works well.  The top of the box is adorned with metal fittings and beautifully made.  In the center of the metal on top are three openings which have some type of fabric which is worn by age.  I believe the exterior is leather which retains most of its original color and design but has darkened places as well as light skinned place on one side, evident in the photos.  All in all, this is a spectacular little box you won't find again anytime soon.   See my other items on auction; one photo includes other auction items, but this auction is for the sewing box set ONLY.  Item is for sale AS IS and AS FOUND.  No alterations have been made to the item by the seller.  You have our best wishes...happy bidding!
