It's no exaggeration to describe Behrens's appointment as artistic director of AEG in 1907 as a turning point in design history; it was the first time a major international company had employed a single designer to advise on all aspects of its corporate identity, accommodation and output. Besides creating new premises for the company - including the Turbine Factory, itself a landmark of modernism - he devised a new range of groundbreaking and consciously forward-looking electrical products, including lighting, clocks and tea kettles, of which this is an example.Description: The kettle of rounded form, executed in nickel plated brass with ebonied wooden finial and rattan handle. Markings: It is stamped on the underside with the AEG company logo and model numberSize: It measures about 22.5 cm (or 9 inches) in height and the diameter of the base is about or 12.5 cm (or 5 inches).Condition: Excellent. There is expected minor surface wear consistent with age and use and a minor bump but no significant damages. The rattan handle is complete and in outstanding condition. The kettle is sold as an important, decorative artefact of design history rather than an working appliance so must be electrically tested by a professional electrician before use. I have not tested it myself.
