Description
Up for consideration is an extremely fine pair of American gas Chandeliers probably by Mitchell Vance & Co out of New York. This magnificent duo with 6 arms each measure 48 inches high by 24 inches wide. They date from about 1890's or so and have some French or Louis XVI influence. They consist of intricately cast pieces that have been hand tooled or finished and have the remnants of fine gilt work. For example the floral buttons which measure about 2 inches across have a threaded rod which the cast laurel swag bolts through and swags on to the next arm. Please see photos. If you know lighting than you know the quality of casting can only be obtained when the elements are singularly cast then assembled. I really could carry on for hours about them as I have to pull the reins back on bragging and boasting....because yes there are some really great fixtures out there....in state capitols...public buildings...private homes of wealth.... by Cornelius and Baker........ Archer and Pancoast....but you won't find a pair anywhere like this. These chandeliers are large but not overwhelming....fine yet robust, handsome...they would work well in a large dining area or ballroom. They have great lines and design elements that are found in other fashion trends at that time such as French Louis XVI...... Since the second half of the 19th century Americans had become less dependent on France to supplement their fine taste for fashionable furniture lighting etc... as New York Manufacturers during that time period had been producing fine quality furniture, and lighting.....as demonstrated here.... . Likewise this pair is a very conservative and traditional form that still has overwhelming appeal in today's market some 125 years later. Thanks for taking the time to read this I know you are busy. Please take a look at my other items offered for sale. Condition: One floral button missing, one small finial missing, rough edge to the top edge of the bottom piece of marble on one lamp. In need of rewiring. Gilt work more that 50% intact...pictures were shot under a natural sunlight. Please email if you have any questions or concerns. Guaranteed 100% to be original 1890's or earlier American gas chandeliers of high quality and casting as stated. Please contact for shipping inquiries. Thanks Sincerely John JjB
