This piece measures 12.25" wide, across the wings, 7" tall, and about 3.5" deep.This angel was made to hang on a wall and has and old eye-screw and ring attached to the back of it's head. This piece features a realistically carved head, much in the manner of the Spanish Colonial "Santos" of the 19th century. The Angel's eyes are made of hollow glass, with nice reversed-painted brown, yellow, black, and white details. The carved wooden wings are attached to the head and feathered chest, in the back, with three small rusted nails. This piece was originally gessoed and painted, but over the years almost all of the paint has worn away, leaving the fine aged look of the weathered gesso and exposed and oxidized wood. This piece is recognizable to me as having an origin of Mexico because I have seen the new examples of this form, however the new pieces don't have the fine carved details and beautiful patina that this piece exhibits. This small Angel sculpture is in great condition, with weathering, an aged patina to the surfaces, and as you can see, some small cracks to the wood. All of these things excentuate the expressiveness of the Angel and she will look great on her new owner's wall.
