Description
We’re back and we have some of the best antique radios we’ve ever had to offer! We took a year off to expand our radio facilities and replenish our stock of restored antique radios in an effort to offer our valued customers some of the best antique radios available. Be sure to check out our 10 day auctions starting Sunday and Thursday nights for new Quality Antique Radio listings! Please email me if you wish to see the bidding list since this is a private auction. If your looking for an extremely elegant, high end Cathedral radio, it doesn‘t get much better than this. The 1934 Atwater Kent model 944. Atwater Kent was the radio of choice for upper class America in the early 1930’s. Only the finest craftsmanship and top notch electronics went into these classy sets, and this one is a fine example. Featuring gorgeous multi-toned wood, large Art Deco grill, intricate pin stripe inlays, and optimal sound from the large speaker. Cabinet: The multi colored cabinet is just stunning with gorgeous tones of dark walnut, mahogany, and cherry with ebony trim. The intricate inlays that flow throughout the front of the cabinet separate the different toned sections of wood which really sets this cathedral apart from most others. The large Art Deco grill area not only looks fabulous but also allows for optimal sound from the large, heavy speaker. The classy brass name plate and dial plate compliment each other perfectly and finish this set off with the utmost elegance. This highly sought after radio is sure to be the main conversation piece no matter which room of the home or office it is displayed in. Please email me to see photos with Zoom Views. Be sure to view my other Radio Auctions! The Cabinet’s Finish: All of our radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process using a minimum 12 coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners. A 1000, 2000, & 4000 grit wet sanding follows every third coat. The process is finished off with a three step polishing process with a final Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into these cabinets but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful cabinet with a silk smooth finish and gorgeous luster & shine. During the restoration process on this radio, a small lacquer blemish was visible, only up close, right next to the left front speaker screw. It has been touched up with a stain marker and is nothing at all that detracts from the beauty of this set. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the house or office. Knobs/Dial: Both wood knobs are in excellent condition. They are secure, turn smooth and work as they should (on/off volume & tuning). The brass Atwater Kent name plate and the brass dial plate have been polished and are in remarkable condition. The dial scale is in great shape. All numbers representing station frequencies are legible and show very little signs of wear. The dial scale moves nice and smooth while turning the tuning knob, as it should. The dial lights nice and bright with a warm orange glow. Electronics/Chassis: The 4 tube chassis is in very good condition. It has been electronically restored and thoroughly cleaned as with all of our radios. The set plays very well with excellent volume, good tone, and no hum. I will include a 30 day warranty on the tubes, caps and filters. Dimensions: 12”W x 14“H x 7 ¼“D. Approximate Shipping cost: $35 East Coast, $45 Central, $60 West Coast. I sell quality antique radios and describe them accurately.
