Description
Historic Reproduction Floor Cloth 5'x7' Floor Cloths were used as the primary floor covering in America from the late 1700's to the mid 1800's. These hand painted canvas rugs were prized for their beauty, durability and easy care. They were originally known as a poor man's carpet, but have now evolved into fine art for the floor. My floor cloths are made on a heavy 12 oz. cotton canvas with a non-skid backing. They are primed with two coats of Gesso, hand painted with colors that were common in the Colonial America era. An antiquing glaze is applied to get an immediate aged effect, and then 5 coats of satin polycrylic is applied. They are hearty, can stand up to heavy traffic, and be moved easily from room to room. Unlike rugs, floor cloths don't hold in dust and are perfect for people with allergies. They are ideal for kitchens, entryways, mudroom, dining rooms, laundry rooms, foyers and kid's rooms because spills wipe up easily with a damp cloth. Their vibrant colors make they perfect to use as a wall hanging also. The floor cloth in this listing is a large elongated octagon shaped 5'x7'. The center is a classic diamond motif, one of the older floor cloth designs on record, done in a sponged on Charcoal Gray and white with a white border motif made with an authentic Moses Eaton New England Collection stencil (circa 1800-1840). The diamonds have a sponged texture, as seen in the photo below. This is a custom item, so please allow up to 10 business days for shipping. All of my floor cloths are available in custom colors and sizes. Simply contact me using the "Contact Seller" button and give me a detailed description of what you need. I will then send you a price quote, and if the cost is acceptable to you I will list a Buy It Now auction for you to purchase. I prefer PayPal, but I will accept money orders or a personal check. Payment must be received within 5 days of the end of the auction. Please let me know within 3 days which payment method you will be using. If paying by check, the item will not ship until the check clears the bank, usually 7-10 business days. If you cannot honor this, please do not bid. If payment is not received within 5 days, the item will be relisted and negative feedback will be left. The floorcloth will ship USPS Priority Mail, and include insurance and delivery confirmation.
