Description
HUGE 19TH C PETITPOINT MUSEUM QUALITY ~ FIGURAL   For your consideration I have an exceptional antique, (19th century) wool petitpoint that I won on eBay several years ago.  I can’t remember if it is English or French. It has been sitting in my closet for years waiting for me to frame it. Originally I thought to make a pillow with it but it is too large and I don’t have the heart to cut it down. My wall space is so limited that I hate to invest in framing it since I don’t have a place to hang it. I am reluctantly going to offer it up to the eBay gods and see if anyone out there can cherish this wonderful piece of art. It needs to get out of the closet and into the light of day to be admired.   This piece measures 26.5” wide by 30” long. The whole entire piece is done in petitpoint except the faces, necks, hands and arms are done in micro petitpoint. Here you see a gentleman wooing his paramour. At first I thought it might be Queen Elizabeth but I don’t think she had that breed of dog. You can see the very opulent surroundings. Check out the folds in the drapery, the statue and the stained and leaded glass windows.  The colors are jewel tones and pretty vivid for its age; red, green, blue, black, gold, brown and more. There is a dog in the lower left corner wearing something regal. There is a guitar leaning against the wall. The gentleman appears to being giving his lover a present or perhaps she is reading a book to him (I can’t tell).   The condition is excellent. I see just one small area of missing stitches above the brown pedestal on the left. You can not see this unless you hold it up to the light. There are however 2 tiny rips that have been repaired. These appear in the top corners as if someone nailed it up on a wall. Because of there location and size these are not noticeable. Also there is a rip on the fine canvas on the left side. This is NOT on the petitpoint just on the canvas along with nail holes around the canvas. The canvas is yellowed or tea stained from age. I personally think this is a museum quality piece of work. I can’t imagine the hours that have gone into this piece. In all my years of collecting antique needlepoint, I have never seen one like this so it probably is an original. It comes from a smoke free home. Please check out my other auctions. I will be happy to combine shipping. We accept Paypal, cashiers checks and postal money orders, no personal checks unless you are a regular customer.  I will contact you within 24 hours of auction. Payment is due within 7 days of close of auction. I usually ship within 24 hours of payment. You can e-mail me if you have any questions or concerns. I do not normally take returns unless of course item is not as described so bid carefully. U.S bidders add $7.00 for shipping and delivery confirmation, insurance is optional but highly recommended.  I try to ship priority when possible utilizing the flat rate box, sometimes it doesn’t work out and I have to use a bigger box. Depending on your location I will ship priority if close or parcel post if not. If you think that the shipping price is too high feel free to ask for a more accurate rate. Thank you for bidding and good luck.
