Description
This GENUINE cotton antique applique quilt apparently is a Marie Webster in the Poppy pattern (thanks again, kind eBay expert!!!) and was made in 1920-1930 - the last photo in the group looks muddy because it is a view of the quilt being held up to daylight (and viewed from the reverse side, which is why colors look faded - they are showing through from the light and are actually on other side). It's meant to show the cotton ball pieces that make up the batting - and an occasional cotton seed (or hull/husk, piece, I guess?) I'm selling this for my mother, who said to do that, as it is good proof of age and authenticity; however, I just read an article on a neat site called "Hart Cottage Quilts" that says this is not really true, so I guess it's just one of those folk lore things? I guess neither of us is a quilt expert. But I do know that the batting IS cotton and the entire quilt is done by hand!) Other photos (I apologize for my old floppy disc camera) show the intricate tiny stitches on the quilting pattern, and unfortunately, the occasional stains from age and rust, and one slightly loose corner. The largest stain is shown and measures about 1/2" diameter; overall, the quilt looks clean for its age and you have to be up close to see the little spots and stains elsewhere. She assures me that these are in line with quilts of this age and that an expert collector will be able to clean them, or probably won't care. HOWEVER, read my seller feedback and my returns policy! I don't want any unhappy buyers, so you can take a chance and I will refund if you aren't pleased! If you search through my various sold item ratings, you will find some antique quilts and jacquards mixed in there. FREE shipping and insurance on this quilt! Now that value is better established, I have raised starting price (since it makes me less prone to sell it and more likely to have her keep it around?...), but still NO reserve! Looks like with the new price it's still an incredible deal, based on what I've now seen - and really IS in great condition overall, guaranteed! The size of the quilt is approximately 72" wide by 86" long, and it is only about 1/8" thick since the batting is actual cotton and not a later material. Please write me if you need more details on this, and I will answer promptly! THANKS for looking!
