Description
You are bidding on an Original Indo-Persian (Saracen) warrior's helmet called a Kulah-Khud. These were professional Islamic soldiers. The historically famous Sal-ed-Din, who fought the Crusaders, was himself Indo-Persian. The helmet itself was hand made, beautifully engraved and gold colored damascening added; The Indo-Persian artisans were well known for their superior craftsmanship in the Middle-East. The top spike is missing as is the original sliding nasal guard. The nasal guard on the helmet is a wood replica and I have no idea by whom or when it was made. The nasal brace with screw is original and is actually wired to the helmet. There are two plume holders above the eye areas. Often verses from the Koran were engraved on these helmets. The chain mail is a style I have not seen before and if it is original or not I don't know. There are 2, barely noticable, pin-sized holes in the left rear of the helmet. The inside has no padding as the helmet was placed over the padded head of the warrior. The Kulah-Kuhd was used for centuries from Persia to India and in some areas possibly up to the time armor was no longer in general use. This is a beautiful example of an artistically well made and rare helmet of a bygone era. Shipping is approx $10.00 with in the US, and aprox $39.00 US to Europe. Insurance depends on value and is prefered.
