It is well known amongst textile collectors and museum because of the exquisite and intricate patterns are tied-and-dyed (wrap-ikat technique) on vertical treads. The distinctive feature of Iban wrap-ikat is the finesse employed in tieing the patterns. These weavings played an important role in the rituals and culture of the Iban. Pua is used to decorate the walls of family rooms during festivals. At the Gawai Antu, the festival for the souls of the departed, virtuous women present bowls of sacred rice wine to the community’s heroes on folded lengths of pua. Newly captured heads used to be deposited on this precious textile. A respectable Iban young women had to have finished at least one full-sized (2m by 1.5m)i pua kumpu to be eligible for marriage to a properly qualified young man, one who had obtained his first head trophy.  This is a half century old, very unique piece with 18 human faces figure.
