Description
Notched Blade, Upper Paleolithic, Gravettian   DescriptionType: notched ridge bladePaleolithic Period, Industry: Upper Paleolithic, Gravettian Dating: approx. 29.000 to 22.000 B.P Description: Size: length 7,6 cm, weight 15 grams Shape, Retouch: a quite long, regular subsequent order ridge blade of typical triangular shape at the distal part – that’s where also rests of the core’s ridge are still visible. The distal end is oblique and abrupt, not a break, but just the other end of the core. The left edge presents a deep notch with lateral retouch, which is continued up to the medial part of the lateral edge. The right edge has a retouch at the proximal part. Ridge blades were preferred for tools designed for rather heavy duties: their triangular shape is much more resistant than flat blades Raw-material: marbled gray patinated flint Preservation: very well, no modern damages Origin, Site: a famous Gravettian site near the Dordogne valley, Dept.
