Description
This Naga chest ornament, from an old German collection and previously sold by noted authority Mark Johnson, has ample provenance to verify its quality and age. The fierce Naga wore chest ornaments to indicate success in headhunting, and this refined example bears the correct patina at the back, evidence of a long history of tribal use. Deep and expert carving of the facial features creates a powerful and expressive countenance of the vanquished enemy. The holes at the top are burned not drilled, as expected on old authentic pieces. The dimensions are approximately 8 cm long, 5 cm wide, and 4 cm deep. This fine piece has been mounted on a museum mount. The anterior face is labeled with an old collection tag. As always, we guarantee the quality and authenticity of all material to be as described. Bid with confidence.
